Tothomweb is a very diverse team made up of people with and without disabilities who are experts in the development and design of accessible websites as well as in auditing and consulting on issues related to technological accessibility. Some of these people have a visual impairment and therefore we need to look for work tools that are accessible to everyone. Until a few months ago we used Skype for internal communications but in the latest updates versions of this program for PC have neglected accessibility in chat options. It seemed like a lie but Skype was pulling back on its offer of a product that until then was quite affordable. This made things very complicated for us and put on the table the need to look for an alternative. We found one, specifically the Slack.
We were pleasantly surprised by the information for screen reader and keyboard users contained on their website and we tried it. It seemed, and we find it, an agile and easy to use tool. The experience was very good in the individual and group chats but we found problems in the function of voice calls. When we detected it, we immediately contacted with Slack’s support team who quickly replied that they would work to resolve this and that we would please let them know of any other lack of accessibility.
In a few weeks this feature became accessible and can be used with screen reader. This has allowed us to continue working with this tool. The company's accessibility policy has seemed impeccable and we want to highlight it from our blog, although this is how all companies that want to include any class should respond. customer and user. Accessibility is not only necessary for public websites and mobile applications but also for professional applications used internally by companies of any kind, as this promotes labor integration and the real and effective inclusion of all members of an organization, whatever their capabilities.
Congratulations to the Slack team and we encourage all companies to offer technology solutions and tools for organizations to work for real accessibility. This will allow them to retain customers and have a wider range. We, if necessary, can help make this possible with our advice.
