The new version of EN 301 549, published in September 2026, introduces important changes to the way accessibility is evaluated across ICT products and services. The move to WCAG 2.2 is one of the most visible updates, but the revision goes considerably further, affecting how requirements are interpreted, how their applicability is determined and how conformity is demonstrated.

From 23 June 2021, public sector apps must be accessible under Royal Decree 1112/2018. TOTHOMweb offers specialised app accessibility audits and official compliance reports. At Mobile Week, they explained what app accessibility means and demonstrated how a blind person navigates a mobile device.

World Design Day is on April 27th. Accessible and attractive design are compatible: minimum 4.5:1 contrast for text, not relying solely on colour, consistent navigation, legible typefaces and distinguished links. Accessible design also improves SEO, usability and brand image.

The WCAG are the W3C's international standard for web accessibility. They explain how to make web content accessible to people with disabilities. They are aimed at content developers, accessibility tool developers and organisations that need to meet a recognised web accessibility standard.

October 1st is the International Day of Older Persons. 44% of people over 65 use social media. Retirees own an average of 3 electronic devices. Following WCAG 2.1 ensures websites are accessible to older people who gradually lose visual, auditory and motor capabilities over time.

September 23 is the International Day of Sign Languages. Catalan Sign Language (LSC) was approved by Parliament in 2010. In Spain, sign language interpretation is not mandatory on websites, but subtitles are. WCAG criterion 1.2.6 (level AAA) recommends sign language interpretation in video content.
