Accessibility calendar for 2020

We have just launched this year and from TOTHOMweb we want to remember some key dates for the accessibility of websites and mobile applications, especially with regard to the obligations of public administrations.

On 22 December 2016, the European Union Directive 2016/2102 on the accessibility of websites and applications for mobile devices of public sector bodies entered into force. The policy is being implemented gradually so that all organizations can adapt their websites and mobile applications.

At state level, the European directive has been transposed into Royal Decree 1112/2018, published in the Official State Gazette on 19 September 2018,

which specifies the requirements of the directive.

The following application schedule is established:

  • September 20, 2019: Obligation for new websites published after September 20, 2018 (the European directive establishes September 23 but the Spanish regulations modify this date).
  • September 20, 2020: Obligation for all published websites (the European directive establishes September 23 but the Spanish regulations modify this date).
  • June 23, 2021: Obligation for mobile applications.

Therefore, all websites published from September 20, 2018 have had one year to adapt to the accessibility criteria, and the rest of the websites must be accessible from September 20, 2020.

Websites published after September 20, 2018 have had one year to adapt to accessibility criteria.

If you need help to comply with the regulations on the established dates, you can contact us and we will accompany you on the path of web accessibility to guarantee the rights of all citizens.
