Mobile and accessible applications? Is possible?

The third week of March has been consolidated as the week of learning through mobile devices. Even today there are many people and companies who have never considered that a person with a disability (visual, motor, auditory, cognitive ...) can use a mobile phone if it is accessible, and especially if the applications are they are.

The arrival of the iPhone was a revolution that greatly changed the landscape of mobile accessibility because, despite being a keyboardless device includes elements such as the VoiceOver screen reader or the ability to zoom or invert colors, among other measures designed for people with hearing or motor disabilities.

Later, Android devices gradually became (and continue to improve) including accessibility options. Just as APPLE devices (iPhones, iPads, etc.) offer a screen reader called Voiceover, which includes those on the ANDROID system called Talkback.

This allows people with disabilities to make use of devices like any other, surfing the internet, APPS, etc. and therefore applications need to be accessible. They must meet accessibility requirements so that there is no discrimination.

The accessibility of the various mobile platforms is largely defined by their accessibility layer and the quality of their support products. This can quickly determine whether or not an app is accessible for a disability profile. For example, for a mobile device that uses a platform for which there is no screen reader, a negative result of all the criteria related to the use of this support product could be assumed.

Enabling accessibility measures is a great way to assess whether an APP is accessible, although you need to read the help to understand how you interact with your mobile from this activation.

Gestures change, so you need to keep that in mind, but taking these tests will help you quickly realize if an app is causing you trouble navigating a screen reader, for example.

Check here the accessibility measures available for APPLE devices.

Here you can also find the accessibility measures but in this case the ANDROID devices.Android Accessibility Helps.

At TOTHOMweb we assess the level of accessibility of APPS to ensure that everyone can use it and, if you need it, we can help you meet the legal requirements that, from 2021, they will have to meet.
