TOTHOMweb has established a strategic alliance with Deque, an international reference in digital accessibility, to integrate their tools into team workflows. The combination of automated, semi-automated and manual testing enables broader and more thorough coverage of digital projects.
Most digital products are not designed for everyone. Millions of people with disabilities encounter avoidable digital barriers every day. From June 2025, a new law requires guaranteed digital accessibility, with potential fines of thousands of euros for non-compliance.
Headings are key to web accessibility. Relevant WCAG criteria are 1.3.1 (information and relationships), 2.4.6 (descriptive headings), 2.4.1 (bypass blocks) and 2.4.10 (section headings). A best-practice checklist is included, along with tools like HeadingsMap to test heading structure.
TOTHOMweb collaborated with Barcelona Activa on a web accessibility workshop. 1 in 5 digital users has some functional diversity. Ernesto Blanco, who is visually impaired, demonstrated how blind people navigate real websites and taught 5 basic, easy-to-implement accessibility principles.
From 23 June 2021, public sector apps must be accessible under Royal Decree 1112/2018. TOTHOMweb offers specialised app accessibility audits and official compliance reports. At Mobile Week, they explained what app accessibility means and demonstrated how a blind person navigates a mobile device.
World Design Day is on April 27th. Accessible and attractive design are compatible: minimum 4.5:1 contrast for text, not relying solely on colour, consistent navigation, legible typefaces and distinguished links. Accessible design also improves SEO, usability and brand image.
The WCAG are the W3C's international standard for web accessibility. They explain how to make web content accessible to people with disabilities. They are aimed at content developers, accessibility tool developers and organisations that need to meet a recognised web accessibility standard.
October 1st is the International Day of Older Persons. 44% of people over 65 use social media. Retirees own an average of 3 electronic devices. Following WCAG 2.1 ensures websites are accessible to older people who gradually lose visual, auditory and motor capabilities over time.
September 23 is the International Day of Sign Languages. Catalan Sign Language (LSC) was approved by Parliament in 2010. In Spain, sign language interpretation is not mandatory on websites, but subtitles are. WCAG criterion 1.2.6 (level AAA) recommends sign language interpretation in video content.
TOTHOMweb participated in the 7th Senior Programmes Meeting of the Red Vives network (University of Girona). David Sabaté addressed universal accessibility, technological solutions to improve the quality of life of older people and innovation projects in senior learning.
